More info about ALPHA 2014 – Q&A

People attend Alpha for a wide variety of reasons – some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples’ beliefs or would like to explore the purpose of life. Many people have never been to church and others may have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Alpha is their open door.

WHO IS THE ALPHA COURSE FOR?

The Alpha course attracts a diverse range of guests, including people of different ages and backgrounds, all with differing viewpoints, and at all different levels of faith.

DO I NEED TO BE A CHRISTIAN TO DO THE COURSE?

No, you don’t need to be a Christian. The course is designed for anyone who is interested in asking questions or learning more about the Christian faith. Many guests have never been to church before.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

There is no charge for attending the Alpha course, although we ask for a $7 contribution towards dinner each week.

ARE MY QUESTIONS TOO CONTROVERSIAL FOR CHURCH?

All questions are welcome on the Alpha course. The course is designed for people to freely ask the tough questions about life and the Christian faith.

DOES THE COURSE EXPLORE OTHER RELIGIONS?

The Alpha course is an exploration of the Christian faith only.

WHAT IF I TRY IT AND DON’T WANT TO COME BACK?

Getting ready for Alpha

1000185031

A lot of hard work has gone on to prepare for Alpha 2014 at Apex UMC.  But what is Alpha really all about?  Here’s a quick overview about what Alpha can bring to your spiritual journey:

What Is Alpha?

Alpha gives everyone the opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course usually meets once a week for 10 weeks, including a one-day or weekend getaway.  Sessions begin with a meal, followed by a short talk and time to discuss what’s been taught.

During the discussion, everyone is welcome to contribute their opinions and  no question is considered  hostile or too simple.  Questions might include—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Courses vary in size, from one small group meeting in a home, to hundreds of people in a church. Some courses are held over morning coffee or during a lunch hour. Most are evening courses, typically lasting 2 hours.
